Asia’s Largest Wildlife Highway Corridor To Open In India

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: India will soon get Asia’s largest corridor on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, protecting wildlife and reducing travel time between the two major cities by 3.5 hours. Inda’s first expressway spans 12 km and will protect wildlife.  

The most-awaited Delhi-Dehradun expressway is currently under construction in the Rajaji National Park. Earlier, travel time from Delhi to Dehradun was about 6 hours which will reduce to 2.5 hours through this highway. Similarly, the travel time between Delhi-Haridwar was 5 hours, but with Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, it will minimise to 2 hours.

The ministry of information and broadcasting took to Twitter and shared this information. Named Pragati Ka Highway, the ministry said that it is Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor under construction and will protect wildlife.  

Facts about Delhi-Dehradun Expressway 

  • It will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun. 
  • The expressway will connect multiple cities such as Delhi’s Akshardham Mandir to Uttarakhands’s Dehradun via cities like Saharanpur, Bhagat, Shamli and Gaziabad. 
  • The project will be divided into four phases. 
    • Phase 1- Delhi (Akshardham) to Bagpat (Uttar Pradesh)
    • Phase 2- Bagpat to Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh)
    • Phase 3- Sahanpur to Ganeshpur (Uttarakhand)
    • Phase 4- Ganeshpur to Dehradun (Uttarakhand)
  • The estimated cost of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is over 12,000 crores. 
  • It is expected to be operational by 2023. 
  • Delhi-Dehradun Expressway foundation was laid On February 26, 2021, by Nitin Gadkari. 

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is an important project. The significant benefit of this highway is, that it will reduce the travel time between two big cities in the country. Also, it will allow Delhiites a quick getaway to all nearby tourist destinations such as Dehradun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, etc.
