Firewatch VR Mod Now Available Free Of Charge

While the mod itself is free, you will need to own a copy of the game in order to play in VR.

Originally released back in 2016, Firewatch by developer Camp Santo is one of the most unique single-player adventure games of the past decade. Set in the Wyoming wilderness during the late 1980s, this instantly-recognizable classic has maintained a dedicated following thanks to its beautiful visuals, engaging storyline, and captivating branching script.

Roughly a year ago, Ricardo Lopes, aka ‘Raicuparta’, began work on an unofficial VR mod for the award-winning game complete with motion control support as well as VR-specific comfort options. Previously available only to Patreon subscribers, Lopes this week made his Two Forks VR mod available to everyone 100% free of charge.

Those interested can download the open-source mod via Github and begin exploring the Wyoming backcountry in VR right now. That said, you will need to own a compatible version of the game on PC (either Steam or GOG) in order to play. Those subscribed to the Xbox Games Pass (PC only) can also access the game in VR.

Any PC VR headset should work fine, as will a Meta Quest 2 connected to your PC via Air Link, Link, Virtual Desktop, or ALVR. You will need SteamVR installed regardless of which platform you purchased the game on.

Installation is pretty straightforward:

  1. Download the latest mod version via Github.
  2. Extract the file anywhere on your PC (make sure you can find it easily).
  3. Drag and drop the “Firewatch.exe” file onto the “TwoForksVRInstaller.exe” file.
  4. Start the game at least once.
  5. Enjoy!

Firewatch is currently available for $19.99 via Steam and GOG. The game is also available to Xbox Games Pass subscribers (PC) at no additional cost.
