New headset owners can pick up a copy of Beat Saber free for a limited time.
Beginning August 1st, the price of all Meta Quest 2 headsets will increase by $100. The 128GB model will be available for purchase at $399.99 and the 256GB model for $499.99.
According to Meta, one of the primary reasons for the price increase is rising production and shipping costs. The Meta Quest blog talked more about investing for the “long term.”
“The costs to make and ship our products have been on the rise,” said the company. “By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to grow our investment in groundbreaking research and new product development that pushes the VR industry to new heights.”
To help soften the blow, Meta is offering a free copy of Beat Saber to anyone who purchases a Meta Quest 2 VR headset from August 1st through December 31st, 2022. The device must be activated before January 31, 2023, using an account that does not already own the game.
Even with this unexpected price increase, the Meta Quest 2 remains one of the most affordable all-in-one VR headsets currently available. The platform features a solid catalog of immersive games and apps, with exciting new titles such as Ghostbusters VR, Among Us VR, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, BONELAB, and NFL PRO ERA on the way.
The company plans on launching its next headset, codenamed Project Cambria, later this year, followed by new generations of the Meta Quest.
Along with hardware, the company is working diligently on advancing VR displays, audio, incredibly lifelike avatars, haptics, wrist-based interfaces, and more.
